Two-Face Portrait By Carolyn and Candice
Artist: Carolyn Bell and Candice Chung
Older Adult Site: Weinberg Center for Balanced Living
Class: Creative Arts Therapy, Individual Session
Material: Acrylic paint on canvas
Artist Statement: “At the end of our shared painting sessions, Candice and I would turn the canvas to all angles to see what unintentional images we could find. This painting was a joint effort with each of us taking turns putting one brush stroke at a time on the canvas. It was done horizontally. When turned vertically we both saw an image of a face. On one end, it looked like a bald man with a fat face and a smile. Turned in the opposite direction, it appeared to be a portrait of a man looking to his side.”
Dream I & Dream II
Artist: Ritsuko Takashima and Ai Hayatsu
Older Adult Site: Sirovich Center for Balanced Living
Class: Creative Arts Therapy, Individual Session
Material: Ink and watercolor on paper
Artist Statement: “It was a collaborative work with Ai. We dropped ink on wet paper and created images with the markings. The young person and the child are dreaming about what they want to do in the future. The child has his eyes closed but his mind has so much and he is not afraid to take a big step. The adult with many faces is wondering which way to go. Hopefully, he will find the way.”
